It was pretty warm – up near 90 today – so I thought the bees might be pretty busy – even at 8pm, they were still going strong, so I grabbed my camera and took a few pictures of the bees waiting for their turn to enter the hive.

It was pretty warm – up near 90 today – so I thought the bees might be pretty busy – even at 8pm, they were still going strong, so I grabbed my camera and took a few pictures of the bees waiting for their turn to enter the hive. Since the weather’s still been slightly lousy – rain/sun/rain/sun, etc., I decided to open up the hive on Saturday instead of waiting until Sunday, as the weather was warmer. I had to keep it short, as we were having dinner guests, but I thought it’d be better than waiting until the cool Sunday weather. Today ends week 4 with the bees. To date, things have been going very well, so I was gearing up to add another brood chamber to the hive – just a 2nd box of 10 frames that the bees can build out, and use for brood rearing, honey and pollen storage. Today was quite a bit nicer than advertised – nearly 70 degrees with partly cloudy skies – a perfect day to pay a visit to the hive. Will & I showed off the hive to geocaching friends Norman and Mark, and I mentioned that while I had sugar syrup on the hive, the bees hadn’t [...] |
